Psychopsis Mariposa
July 15, 2015: Here are photos of my first bloom from my Psychopsis. I hesitated buying a Psychopsis for a while not for really any reason other than that I was unfamiliar with how they grew and what they needed. After I saw this plant at the Mother's Day orchid sale from my orchid society, I got very excited and bought up this wonderful plant. From the time I bought it, the plant had 5 flower spikes and since then it's already grown 2 more. It took a while for it to finally bloom, but I've heard that these guys will stay in continual bloom, one flower at a time, for months if I'm lucky. I just love this flower. It's called the "butterfly orchid" but I've always felt more like the antennae are equally as striking at the winged lip, making me view this as more of an alien insect. I noticed that the antennae were very droopy when I recently returned from a vacation and since I watered it they have almost overly compensated by sitting perfectly erect and close together. I'm so into this plant.
