Paphiopedilum Odette Doubled
(Odette Divine 'big red' x Odette's Magic 'Round Red')
Feb. 23, 2015: Here is my beautiful dark red paphiopedilum Odette Doubled which is so cool. I bought him from the POE and while his flower is currently very droopy and not all the way open, I'm hoping that he's going to open more. I had a Paph. Vinicolor on my wish list and did not find that exact type, but there were several other options that had the same gothic coloring. There is one old flower spike and a couple new growths so I'm excited to see how he does.
Mar. 17, 2015: The flower has dropped which was fairly surprising since I got this plant to recently. Luckily the leaves are so beautiful on their own and seem to be super healthy so it's still a great plant to have around. I really hope to provide super care and have the next bloom be even better next year.
May 20, 2015: I think this will be my first official plant fail. This poor guy seems to have been the victim of a serious fungus or scale infection. I realize that when I was trying to treat it, I didn't use any alcohol to kill what was there, I was just trying to use the neem oil and peroxide without first getting rid of what was already there. When I repotted it, the roots were terrible and I realized that all of the leaves of the bigger older plant were rotted at the base. I tried to save the smaller baby but it's too late and I've come to accept that I lost. Too bad especially considering I bought this from the POE. Oh well, live and learn.
